Hello 🙂

Welcome to the Best Music of All Time newsletter (formerly known as Daily Music Picks). It’s an online space built for music obsessives by a music obsessive.

I mean the latter seriously. I was that kid who stayed up late listening to my record collection on a semi-busted CD player or after-hours radio shows, where they played the deeper, weirder cuts.

I became a DJ in my teens and a full-time radio host before I was 25.

I’m that guy whose idea of time well-spent on a weekend afternoon is thumbing through record store bins for eclectic finds to add to my enormous album collection (over 150,000 songs if you count all the digital files I’ve accumulated over the years).

And now, I want to share my passion with you by exploring the greatest albums, songs, artists, labels, and eras in music history.

What’s in each edition of the newsletter?

When you sign up, you’ll get music recommendation write-ups multiple times a week, complete with all the streaming links you need.

Sometimes, the day’s pick is a single song; other times, it is an entire album. I also frequently share themed lists and studio discography rankings of well-known artists to see what stands out the most.

Most months, I also share a playlist you can add to your favorite streaming platform.

What this newsletter is about

These music picks are here to help you liven up your commute or lunch break, set the mood for a perfect night out (or in), and unwind after a long day is in the book.

Every pick in this newsletter is music I’d consider good, if not great or downright legendary. I realize these are subjective claims, so I don’t expect everyone to agree with me 100% of the time.

What this newsletter isn’t about

This newsletter aims to create a positive, supportive online community where music lovers can discuss, share, and discover all the (ahem) good vibrations in the known universe.

To accomplish this, I avoid by-the-numbers music criticism. There’s no scoring system and no thumbs up/thumbs down verdict. There are plenty of other resources out there that serve this purpose if that’s what you’re looking for.

On a related note, I don’t publish hit pieces on albums, songs, or artists in the form of “overrated” or “worst of”-style lists of music you should avoid. I want this newsletter to spotlight projects worth your time instead of the other way around.

Free vs. paid subscriptions

Right now, all newsletter posts are free; I intend to keep it that way.

I had a paid tier for a hot second back when the previous version of this newsletter started up, but, in the end, I didn’t want there to be any barrier to discovering new music. Until further notice, I’m not gating any content behind any paywalls.

If you’d like to support my work financially (and there’s no obligation to do so), you can head over to my donation page and help fuel my caffeine addiction.

Staying up-to-date with new content

Every new edition of the newsletter arrives in your inbox early in the morning Eastern Time. You can also choose to receive all updates via the Substack app.

Connect with the author (that’s me).

Feel free to reach out any time by way of a Substack DM, email, or Instagram, the one social media profile I update regularly. I do my best to reply to all DMs as quickly as possible, but I still have a day job, so keep that in mind.

Thanks for being here and making this newsletter part of your day!
